About
Sofia Gamiz (1991) is an artist working in painting & ceramics whose work explores everyday womanhood through a term she coined: "Señorisimas."
Based in Mexico City, her art is rooted in her own journey of discovering her femininity — and in the inner worlds of the everyday.
The everyday woman is her starting point: clothing owned for years, blue eye makeup, red hair & a green suit, the quiet choices women make to own themselves. Her grandmothers, her mother, and the streets of Mexico City are her greatest references.
Humor, playfulness & quirkiness are at the core — painting and ceramics feed each other to build characters, narratives & imagery that expand into a larger range of womanhood: laziness, self-love, anger, beauty, enjoyment, rebelliousness, exaggeration & boldness. Themes she lives, and that she invites viewers to connect with & find themselves in.
